    Actually in Australia firearms were available in some supermarkets until the early 1990s and it wasn't every one of them, just those that thought there was a customer base for it. I used to buy ammunition at a few K-Mart supermarkets in Western Australia and they always had a few .22LR rifles, various bolt-action rifles of higher calibre and some shotguns for sale.

    Many of them stopped selling firearms because they didn't want to have to renew the firearms trading licence or they didn't want to be linked to the image of being gun sellers rather than there was any effort to stop them from selling firearms.

      Yeah, I remember when I was a teenager firearms were more widely available.
