  • Initial Issue Kits

This represents way too much free time on my hands over the last twenty some odd years!

    Anywho!

I've always had issues with the initial equipment loads in TM 1-1, I feel that throwing a team to the woves in a post-TEOTWAWKI scenario with what boils down to a couple of weeks of food, a basic load of ammunition and a change of underwear is, at best, a waste of resources. Soooo here are my takes on a few of the Project's "packs". Please feel free to flame away, I am wearing my fire-proof thong!

This first post deals with the Basic Pack. This is a tad on the heavy side at 58kg! But this will give a team member sufficient equipment for about 30 days of use.

Pretty good. Of course, everyone has their own ideas on what is appropriate. Personally, I'm leaning towards the "mothership" idea: reduce the amount of INDIVIDUAL stuff and increase the amount of team/vehicle stuff. That way you can have things like a team allocation of stationery

    (see http://forum.juhlin.com/showthread.p...ght=mothership)

There is no way that could fit into an ALICE large and I am guessing not into a CFP-90 either.

Why not break it down into

      Worn

      LBE

Rucksack (bergen for the Brits n ANZACS).

      Duffle bag

Also yours is a packing list with equipment not yet issued in 1989, so what would you go with if limited upto the 18 November, 1989 time date

It actually breaks down into three loads, a duffel bag with spare clothing and cold weather gear, a rucksack and a tacvest....

I've never seen the need to break down exactly what was carried where, with the exception of anything man-portable. I've always assumed that if the player doesn't have it listed on their vest/rucksack, then its in their duffel bag.

I do it because, well, things get stolen or lost. Then you can play out what is gone; and don't spend time with players begging that the spare parts kits they need for the 40Mw Pulse rifle was really in the bag, not lost. Vehicles get damaged and if the energy from an RPG-7 gets through the armor, the players duffle might be in the way, and get burnt up. That sort of thing.

Theft really motivates Players and makes for impromptu side adventures.

In my FTF games, the players note the contents of their tacvest and pockets on the front of a 3x5 card, the contents of their patrol pack on the back and anything not listed is in the duffel bag.

One of the nice little extras I have seen in different games was the idea of a shoe box, filled with whatever goodies the PC wanted.

I thought it worked well, give the PC something from "home" but not adding a huge amount of volume or weight. One of my PC's had a pipe, 5 lbs of pipe tobacco, couple of Bic lighters, Pipe cleaners, and a Pint of Scotch (for medicinal purposes only!!)
