He'll be missed. At least there's his whole body of work to watch on DVD or VHS.

Every single news report I heard today referred to him as Dirty Dancing star, or star of Ghost. Not one mentioned Red Dawn, easily his finest hour. God rest Patrick, Jed Eckhert was an inspiration to us all!

I think Red Dawn was the first film I saw him in back in the 80's.

              A sad day.

              Long may we remember him.

A real shame. He seemed like a pretty cool guy. The fact that he was married to the same woman since '75 is pretty impressive for a Hollywood type.

Not the greatest thespian, IMO, but I admire the risks he took as an actor. Who else has has had the balls to play teen rebel, guerilla warrior, street-fighting bouncer, dance instructor, ghost, drag-show queen, AND motivational speeker/pedophile. His SNL Chippendales skit with Chris Farley is a classic.

And NO ONE has mentioned his turn in Uncommon Valor, easily the best, most believable '80s Vietnam revenge/redemption flick.

Uncommon Valor was a great show - when I was younger (a lot younger!) We spent many many Saturday nights watching it - I think oour local video library had a copy of it that they kept just for us I actually watched it again recently and still really enjoyed it.

Red Dawn was so inspirational for me. In a sense, it was part of my education regarding the modern military. I wanted to know all about the weapons depicted and how they were supposed to be used, etc. Until Red Dawn, I viewed guerillas as filthy savages. (South Vietnam had fallen only a decade beforehand.)

I had hoped that Patrick would win his battle against Cancer, he had lived almost two years after they gave him five months to live. Loosing him has really hit home, we felt as if he was a member of our extended family ever since they filmed parts of the movie 'Dirty Dancing' in the area around Lake Lure here in NC. My father was one of the EMTs hired to stand by to give medical attention if needed (just like he did for the movie 'A Breed Apart'), and my parents and I were in the background of the scene filmed at the beach, and we got to watch them film the part where they are teaching 'Baby' to do the jumping up into Patrick's characters arms in the freezing cold water was in an area of a summer camp where a dear friend lived and worked. He was a real person, not one of the elitist Hollywood snobs who are stuck on themselves. He is really going to be missed here on Earth, but I feel he's up in heaven right now trying out for a part in a grand musical production with the likes of Fred Astire.
Fuck being a hero. Do you know what you get for being a hero? Nothing! You get shot at. You get a little pat on the back, blah blah blah, attaboy! You get divorced... Your wife can't remember your last name, your kids don't want to talk to you... You get to eat a lot of meals by yourself. Trust me kid, nobody wants to be that guy. I do this because there is nobody else to do it right now. Believe me if there was somebody else to do it, I would let them do it. There's not, so I'm doing it.
