Marriage is likely to make you less honest, unless you think walking away from "Does this make me look fat" will result in less pain. No, my friend, you are about to enter a new realm of falsehoods. On the plus side, harmony-preserving lies make the world go 'round, so there's little need to feel guilty. I, for instance, am right now researching ways to teach basic math to toddlers. See how easy that is

Congratulations on joining the brotherhood of monogamous truth-bending.

And don't you forget you'll always be Bravo to her Alpha.
For the love of god, never, ever allow yourself to forget that!

Problem is... it doesn't always work.
Fuck being a hero. Do you know what you get for being a hero? Nothing! You get shot at. You get a little pat on the back, blah blah blah, attaboy! You get divorced... Your wife can't remember your last name, your kids don't want to talk to you... You get to eat a lot of meals by yourself. Trust me kid, nobody wants to be that guy. I do this because there is nobody else to do it right now. Believe me if there was somebody else to do it, I would let them do it. There's not, so I'm doing it.

Absolutely no need for marriage. Even some of my female friends I'm saying those two words too from time to time.

The way I feel about marriage is...I always dreamed of Miss Right (not Miss Perfect -- Miss Right) and the white picket fence (on a military base) and 2.2 children...but I never found Miss Right and my military career tanked at its highest point. And now I'm nearly 50 and fat and mentally ill and it's just too damn late for any of that.

Miss Rightnow is also an option for some although they usually cost an hourly rate...

Well I'm in Melbourne, Victoria and I've finally found a little bit of time to have to myself. Phew! Women can be such drama queens. I've been providing opinions and input here and there during the wedding planning process but mostly I've been trying to hide and hope no one notices me. Amazing how fast you can blow $10k.

Wedding is tomorrow at noon. The bride-to-be and I are spending the night apart. I think I'll have a couple of stiff drinks tonight. Well, maybe more than a couple!
