That's a good call. I'd say you're right although I initially thought it could be something based on the PT-72 light tank, maybe the NOVA mortar or something but the SPG fits the bill better.

That was my first thought too. Clearly self propelled artillery.

You can tell by the splash board on the front slope as well as the sight aperture to the side of the gun tube. The indentation the lights are mounted on over the tracks are another tell tale.

Vehicle ID was perhaps my strongest thing while I was in: Master Gunners couldn't top me - which they loved and hated at the same time because they would look at me every time they would do a class just waiting for me to correct them.

Same playing Twilight: 2000 and Advanced Recon before joining the Army I totally killed vehicle recognition.

Best line from a SSG. Ok smart ass (after getting them alright) T-72 recognition. What kind of gun.

                Me: 125mm smoothbore cannon.

                SSG: and the Crew

                Me: Three. No loader.

                SSG: What

Me: Sergeant, the T-72 uses an auto loader and has only a driver, gunner, and commander.

SSG: Looks at cards. Damn. *pause* Your teaching this shit.

One of my drills had just finished teaching at master gunner school when he joined us about 10 weeks in. He heard about my talent for VID and decided to knock that smart ass private down a notch. He first asked, what is the T72 armed with and be exact: so a little smart ass popped out and replied with "A 2a46 125 rifled gun with a 1a40 fire control system." I got a 'look' and a frown. The he asked what was the Centurion armed with: I figured he was looking at catching me only giving one of the many guns it had. "Drill Sergeant, the Mark I and II with a OQF 17# Gun, Mark III through Mark V/I with a OQF 20#, and all successive gun armed marks with various models of the Royal Ordinance L7 series, save for South African and Israeli experiments with the Rhiennmetal 120.". Yet another occasion where my smart ass nature did not serve me well.... Not the first and not the last.

On the ID topic, I once worked with an ex Navy aviator name of Ron Cruts (or was it Crutz anyway...) and he and I were talking and he was telling tales out of school so I started hitting him with the lovely Janes Flight Sim knowledge I'd picked up courtesy of EA/Janes plus stuff out of Flight of the Intruder and so on and he was absolutely convinced I'd been in. Then I started talking about Po City (also in FotI, which he hadn't read) and he got downright belligerent when I said I hadn't been in the Nav. It was his assertion that civvies just didn't know the stuff I did. What can I say; I was bored on night shifts in the data center and read and gamed a lot.

Know the feeling although a friend had a simpler MBT recognition system - round turret = shoot it!
