  • OT: WW II hero Ed Ramsey passes on

Saw this in the Los Angeles Times: Ed Ramsey (Col., USA ret.) passed away recently at 95. He's best known for leading the last U.S. mounted Cavalry charge in the Philippines (26th Cav, Philippine Scouts) in Jan '42. He and several others disobeyed orders to surrender when Bataan fell, and took off into the hills to join guerilla forces. Ramsey wound up commanding guerilla units, and later received the DSC. His story was told in the book Lieutenant Ramsey's War, published in 1991. He had a big price on his head issued by the Japanese, as did the other American guerilla leaders, but Ramsey made it. When he got back home in June '45, his sister, who had been a WASP until they were disbanded, flew him home. (among other aircraft, she flew P-38s from the factory to AAF fields)

Historians have said that losing the Philippines in the early stages of World War II was a defining event in the career of Gen.
Treat everyone you meet with kindness and respect, but always have a plan to kill them.
