  • More details for a Krakow campaign

Found this little snippet over at Atlas Obscura (about the 7th picture down from the top) about a former quarry in Podg3rze in Krakow.
Our team at Atlas Obscura is always exploring the overlooked and unexpected, whether in our own backyards or in far-flung locales. In the new One-Line...

Upon following this up there was a bit more background info at the Wiki page
"Towards the end of the Austrian rule, in 1915 the size of Podg3rze reached 1⁄5 of the size of Krak3w. Since the return of Poland's independence, it remained integrated into the city. It includes the historic part of Podg3rze with the triangular market square and impressive St. Joseph Church as well as the green hills of Krzemionki with the World War II quarry called Liban. It also includes the site of the Nazi Krak3w Ghetto and a factory of Oscar Schindler who saved nearly 1,200 Jews from the camps, as well as the old villages (now suburbs) of Płasz3w, Rybitwy and Przew3z."

I was idly pondering about the potential for hidden tunnels that may have been used by the ghetto inhabitants that may be rediscovered by any PCs looking around Podg3rze as well as the potential uses of the quarry (considering it is filled with trees and ponds but could still be mined for stone... or have tunnels dug).

It's also right next door to Kopiec Krakusa, a large mound used as a lookout that's linked to the legendary founder of Krakow.
As I recall from the Krakow module, much of Podg3rze was devastated and I think that was by a small nuke

This page shows the exact location of the quarry and clicking on the map will load a new page/tab with the Google Maps section for the quarry.

All areas south of the Wisla river have been abandoned. (ORMO doesnt have resources to pacify and defend southern parts of city.)

It was Novy Huta (ten kilometers east) that was devastated with three 20 kt nukes.

      I agree, nice catch!

I've wanted to do a really good Krakow game for a long time: my groups (at least three) passed through without settling to get to know people. An espionage game, with or without the 5th Mech's survivors, could be a neat game.

FWIW, I saw in a thread on RPG.net that supposedly, Krakow is possibly the biggest city without any hauntings/ghosts. That may have come from "Dresden Files" (which I've never read) True or not, that's kinda cool.
My Twilight claim to fame: I ran "Allegheny Uprising" at Allegheny College, spring of 1988.

Wow, that would be a tough stat to quantify, which city has the least figments of the imagination.

I'd also direct you to some posts in the Yahoo t2k message boards for some extra information compiled by a friend when he was in Poland in 2010. There's some Krakow specific info that is not mentioned in "Free City of Krakow" listed near the bottom of his post.

The follow on post by one of the other t2k members gives some further clarification and other insights as well
