  • Add to your Twilight: 2000 reading list: Raven Rock

I am listening to the audiobook of Raven Rock: The Story of the US Government's Secret Plan to Save Itself While the Rest of Us Die.

Sensational title aside, it's a very good book on the Continuity of Government planning during the Cold War. I think it's a worthy successor to The Day After World War III, and it gives a better historical background than the latter.

The information on the state lines of succession are more than a little interesting.

To say this is required reading for Twilight: 2000 referees is an understatement. I give it 4 out of 5 mushroom clouds.

A short distance from where I live is a place called Kelvedon Hatch, which was one of the designated 'Regional Seats of Government' for the UK. It's now a museum, with directions on the road saying 'Secret Nuclear Bunker'.

Have any bunkers featured in T2K material

I started reading the book today, and just the introduction has some good adventure seeds, like recovering the Liberty Bell from its hideaway in the Appalachians.

There's also an interesting 2004 article in The Atlantic that opens up the potential for a modified alt-history. It goes into the Reagan-era executive order setting up an alternate succession plan. With three teams set up to potentially take control, it provides a way for the CivGov/MilGov split to occur if two teams try to simultaneously exercise command.

NORAD HQ in Colorado has been mentioned not sure if they went to great detail. Supply Cache SRS-17374-2 from the Allegheny Uprising, could be in a bunker. CFS Carp and CFB North Bay is listed on the Canadian Nuclear Target list. Both are bunkers (I have worked in/visited both)
