    The chaos at the border between Poland and Belarus is just the latest incident to get top brass in Brussels pondering what the European Union should do long-term about its internal security.

    I'm not an expert on Europe in RL 2021, but it seems to me that there's a hard barrier on how much pushback the EU can impose on Russia, and that hard barrier is the threat of Russian piped gas getting switched off.

      Which is why there has been so much opposition to Nord Stream 2. You double not only the capacity of gas delivery, you double the capacity for this extortive behavior.
