  • Radio Jamming Equipment

Last session HQ (GM) used radiojamming equipment against us (players), and it worked pretty well for the enemy. So I thought a decent thread explaining and discussing this very efective "weapon" would be in order. So if any of you out there has some decent info it would be very helpfull. I am particulary interested in how to "combat" it ..for lack of a better word....

SESP develops, manufactures and sells radio frequency jammer equipment, RF jammers, bomb jammers, radio jammers and frequency jamming devices.

Radio Jammer: This Item is a Radio Jammer. It sends out EM waves of a certain frequency. Before you enter:This item is illegal in certain locations. It is only demonstrating how these items work and what only a few dollars at a electronic store can build. This also…

I am more interested in short range radio jamming compared to long range.

The way I used to do it was an opposed roll (Opposed rolls are in the rules; I'll have to look them up for a good description). The roll would be the INT or Electronics skill of the player (which ever is higher) vs. the Electronics or INT of the person doing the jamming. (That's to get a signal out; the opposite to jam a specific signal.) For devices that operate automatically, you have to give them an artificial Electronics skill to work with.

So what you are saying is: If persons that are jammed; they can try to "unjam" and send radio-signals anyway..if they are good in electronics and or INT...hmm I should have argued this with HQ since my character General Pain has 10 in Electronics and in INT.....

Surely the only practical way in a T2K situation to fight jamming would be to either boost the power of the transmitting signal or switch to an unaffected frequency

A more powerfull signal would be optimal indeed.

Considering various frequencies I thought that the equipment was able to jam multiple frequencies. I'd guess it varies from what type and from what decade the equipment is from. I think that equipment in this category would evolve like other equipment in modern warfare.

Yes, that's the "brute force" method to do it. A talented radio operator can also move his dials in tiny increments (if he has a radio with "free" dials, rather than the "click" dials of most modern tactical radios) to try to jump out of jammed spectrum, even if just for a moment. There are other ways to fight jamming with FH radios, but I don't know if they are still classified (when I was in the the Army, those methods were), but the exact methods don't really matter; just using skill rolls and GM fudging should work for game play. And a better antenna, or a boosted antenna will definitely help.
