It was probably inevitable given current budget climate and mission constraints. The Booker was an odd duck, not truly light at 40 tons and the U.S. Army hasn't done much with tank-like "Tank Destroyers" in many years (The M901 ITV notwithstanding.)...

#1692's original US Army markings were crudely painted over before disposal through DRMO. 88 U of the Railway Operating Company (such as it is) have not repainted or re-stenciled the locomotive.

I would agree that many would be in the relocation arc/emergency arc; that makes sense.
Spreading out many more sites would also seem just as likely except for one thing-supply/production capacity.
How much of the MRE, fuel, small arms or whatever could an agency divert from the overwhelming...
