In the Wikipedia article it says "Approximately 1,500 Charlton Automatic Rifles were manufactured in New Zealand, and nearly all of them were destroyed in a fire at the Palmerston North service storage facility shortly after World War II". I lived in Palmerston North from the age of two until my family moved to Australia when I was six. My mum was a founding member of the local motor racing club.Last edited by Targan; 07-18-2009, 04:12 AM.sigpic "It is better to be feared than loved" - Nicolo Machiavelli

That's the Chauchat -- undoubtedly the worst piece of crap forced on any soldier. The stories of the horrors of the Chauchat are legion.I'm guided by the beauty of our weapons...First We Take Manhattan, Jennifer Warnes

Yes, but it's still considered experimental. It's basically a long-range, pinpoint laser dazzler.I'm guided by the beauty of our weapons...First We Take Manhattan, Jennifer Warnes

The TKB-408 was one of the competitors to the AK-47 (IIRC, made by Tokarev). The biggest problem with it was the arrangement of the magazine and pistol grip -- it's ergonomically bad.I'm guided by the beauty of our weapons...First We Take Manhattan, Jennifer Warnes

Our joke in my 3rd ID reenacting group back home to mimic the sound of a Chauchat was to keep our mouth ajar while loosely slapping our cheek in a random rhythm.
