Extra Soviet Divisions for T2K

79th Guards Tank Division
A prewar Category I division based in East Germany. The 79th was redeployed East to China in the winter of 1995. It fought well during the Soviet spring offensive of 1996, but was badly mauled in the Chinese counterattack. Withdrawn into a reserve role, the division has been pretty much forgotten about by higher headquarters and the division commander is weighing possibilities of returning home.

27th Guards Tank Division
A prewar Category I division based in East Germany. The 27th was redeployed East to China by rail in the winter of 1995. It participated in the 1996 spring offensive, but was destroyed in a Chinese counterattack in May.

57th Guards Motor Rifle Division
A prewar Category I division based in East Germany. The 57th was preparing for deployment to the Far Eastern Front in late 1996 when the West German invasion of East Germany caught the division in a road march along the road to Dresden. The unit was badly mauled by Luftwaffe air strikes, but surviving remnants fought well, however, they too were used up by late 1997. In early 1998, the survivors were merged with the 39th GMRD.

47th Tank Brigade
A prewar Category I brigade based in East Germany, the 47th was sent East by rail to the Far Eastern Front in late 1995. It participated in the 1996 spring offensive and took horrendous casualties from Chinese ATGM during a massed assault on the Chinese defenses of Shenyang. Survivors of the brigade were reattached to other units.

7th Guards Tank Division
A prewar Category I division based in East Germany, the 7th fought well against the initial German invasion of 1996. In 1997, it was covering 3rd Shock Army's retreat to the Polish border, and was caught in the flank by British I Corps. 1st and 3rd British Armored overran the hapless 7th and the few survivors that managed to reach Soviet lines were reassigned to other units.

47th Guards Tank Division
A prewar Category I division based in East Germany. The division fought well against the initial German invasion and NATO intervention. It gained a good reputation as a hard fighting unit and was the pride of 3rd Shock Army. As such, when the tactical nuclear exchanges of July 1997 broke out, the 47th was one of the first Soviiet units hit. Worse for the 57th, the 47th was caught in a road march when the strike occurred, little remained of the unit, and after a futile attempt to reform it, surviving elements were merged with 12th Guards Tank Division in 1998.

16th Guards Tank Division
A prewar Category I division based in East Germany. The division was caught preparing to deploy to the East by rail. Rebel East German units caught it at the Rostock railhead and mauled it. The division then remained in a reserve role with until 2nd Guards Army committed it in 1997 to cover the Army's retreat from the disastrous battle of Sulechow. The 18th did well, but was brutally smashed by the US 36th Infantry Division. Survivors were reattached to other units.

207th Motor Rifle Division
A prewar Category I division based in East Germany. The division was caught in it's cantonment in Stendal by the German invasion of 1996. Though the division fought hard and well, it was trapped in Stendal and was slowly ground down in a 3-month siege. After NATO entered the war, the CG of the 207th read the handwriting on the wall, and surrendered his division to the CG of the German 27th Panzer.

32nd Guards Tank Division
A prewar Category I division based in East Germany. The division fought well against the initial German invasion of 1996, but in December, it was destroyed in a running battle with the German 10th Panzer Division in a battle near Frankfurt-on-Oder. Surviving elements were reassigned to other units.

35th Motor Rifle Division
A prewar Category I division based in East Germany. The division was in the process of redeploying by rail to the Chinese theater. When the Germans crossed the IGB in October of 1996. The division was badly mauled as it was put into the line piecemeal. By the time the division was pulled out of the line in early 1997 and sent to Belorussia to rebuild, it was a shattered instrument. It took the division two years to rebuild to some sort of useful standard. In 1999, the division was ordered back into the line in Poland. The division has not fought well and is not seen as a very reliable unit for the most part.

6th Motorized Rifle Brigade
A prewar Category I brigade stationed in East Germany, the 6th comprised the Soviet garrison for East Berlin. It and various East German units under its command comprised the "Berlin Unified Corps". Upon the West German invasion of October 1996 (most of the East German units in Berlin remained loyal), the 6th and it's other Berlin corps units sealed the East and prepared to defend the city against a German attack that never came.
In November 1996, as NATO intervened in Germany, the Berlin Unified Corps massed to attack West Berlin. The attack ended badly, and the 6th along with the rest of the Corps were mauled as NATO reinforcements arrived for the Berlin garrison. The 6th along with the rest of the Corps then settled in for a defense of East Berlin, and their defense was near fanatical, as they denied the Eastern half of Berlin to NATO for a month in some of the most brutal fighting seen in Europe since 1945.
The outcome was never in doubt however, as the city fell on January 9th, 1997 with the US 199th Infantry Brigade raising the American flag over the ruins of the Reichtag and the 1200 Soviet survivors surrendering en masse.

35th Air Assault Brigade
A Category I brigade stationed in East Germany., the 35th was shipped by air to the Far Eastern Front in February of 1996 as the was in China worsened. The unit then participated in the spring offensive of 1996. It's role was to seize certain critical bridges over the Yangtse, but the relief columns never came, and the 35th was caught in a situation that one reporter said "made Arnhem look like a successful operation." The 35th was overrun by massive Chinese human wave assaults and very few got away when the end came some four days after the unit made it's drop behind Chinese lines. The unit was never reformed and those that did manage to get back to Soviet lines were reassigned to other units.

1st Guards Tank Division
A Category I division based in Czechoslovakia, the 1st acquitted itself well in the fighting of 1996 and 1997 against NATO. In August 1997, while in pursuit of US 116th ACR, the division was hit by two tactical nuclear weapons and the division was destroyed as a cohesive entity.

48th Motor Rifle Division
A Category I division based in Czechoslovakia, the 48th fought well from October 1996 to the present. The division has accrued a fine combat record and has absorbed the remnants of several other shattered units

2nd Guards Tank Division
A Category I division based in Hungary, the 2nd was being prepared to be shipped by rail to the Far East, when the Germans crossed the IGB in October of 1996. The orders to send the division were cancelled and the division spent the rest of 1996 being held in reserve, until January of 1997, when the division took the field against the Yugoslavs. The division fought well and at the conclusion of the campaign in Yugoslavia, was sent North to Poland in 1998, but was hit by three tactical nuclear weapons while marching through Hungary. The division was effectively destroyed, though bands of survivors range throughout Northeastern Hungary.

13th Guards Tank Division
A Category I division based in Hungary, the 13th was shipped by rail to the Far Eastern Front in the winter of 1995. The division participated in the spring offensive of 1996, and was badly mauled, having ran afoul of a massive Chinese "TOW front". The division was soon pulled out of the line and sent to the Ukraine to rebuild. But, in late 1998, word came that the division was being sent to Poland, the division mutinied, and broke up. Marauder bands from it's ranks now range throughout the Crimea.

93rd Guards Motor Rifle Division
A Category I division based in Hungary that was being prepared to be shipped by rail to the Far Eastern front in late 1996. Those orders were soon canceled when the West Germans crossed the IGB. The division was sent North to Poland in April 1997 as the situation worsened for the Warsaw Pact. The division was committed to fight a rearguard action for 8th Guards Army in the Warsaw area, and did so skillfully, but was trapped in the Warsaw pocket during the siege. The division was badly mauled in the desperate fighting and was kept in reserve in the Warsaw area once the siege had been lifted. The division however, was completely destroyed when NATO nuked Warsaw.

63rd Guards Motor Rifle Division
A Category II division based in the Leningrad MD. The division was called up in late 1995 to be sent to China, but was instead, with the outbreak of war in the West, sent to the Kola Peninsula to provide local security for the naval bases there. It did so until NATO nuclear strikes in November and December of 1997 destroyed the area and the division right along with it.

65th Guards Motor Rifle Division
A Category II division based in the Leningrad MD. The division was called up in early 1996 as things worsened in China, but was sent into action in Poland instead in March of 1997. The 65th was roughly handled, and was caught in a pocket near Wroclaw and destroyed by elements of US 3rd Armored Division.

36th Guards Naval Infantry Brigade
A Category I brigade based in the Leningrad MD. The brigade was sent North by rail to participate in the initial invasion of Norway in 1996. The Brigade landed at Bodo and held on for three weeks in a siege that resembled the fight at Narvik in 1940. Unlike Narvik though, the Soviet supplies gave out and the relief columns never reached the hapless Soviet Naval Infantrymen. The Brigade soon surrendered en masse after the local Norwegian commander showed the Brigade commander proof help wasn't coming.

33rd Air Assault Brigade
A Category I Brigade based in the Leningrad MD. The brigade has been used as a rapid reaction and raiding force against NATO in Poland and has suffered accordingly. With a lack of aviation gasoline for aircraft, the unit has little or no tactical mobility, and is transitioning slowly to a horse mobile role.

Naval Spetznaz Brigade
A Category I Brigade based in the Leningrad MD. The brigade elements have been spending the war operating as a long-range raiding and recon force, though with the destruction of the Red Banner Northern and Baltic Fleets, many of the teams from the brigade are cut off from help from the Soviet Union. Teams from the brigade can mostly be found in Norway, but a few have been encountered as far south as Scotland.

15th Guards Tank Division
A Category II division based in the Baltic MD. The division was called up in late 1995 and ordered to begin training for possible service in China. However, with the entry of NATO into the war, the division was ordered to remain in place and prepare defenses of it's home city of Kalingrad. The division never managed to see combat, as NATO never turned toward Kalingrad, being content to simply bypass it. But, as the nuclear exchange heated up, the division and the city were both destroyed by NATO warheads

40th Guards Tank Division
A Category II division from the Baltic MD, the division was called up in early 1997 as things became more desperate against NATO in Poland. The division's training was poor and rushed, and as a result, it accrued a loathsome combat record,. In June 1997, the division was caught by NATO airpower in road column and was mauled badly, the division disintegrating under the pounding. The surviving elements of the division were reassigned to other units.

24th Guards Tank Division
A Category II division from the Baltic MD, the division was called up in early 1997 and like it's sister division, the 24th, had considerable mobilization problems. It's training was so poor, that STAVKA ordered it retrained before committing it to action. This was still ongoing by the time of the nuclear strikes in late 1997. As soon as word came of said strikes, an entire Motor Rifle battalion deserted with its equipment, forming the core of a "Latvian Liberation Detachment". Finally, in 1998, the division was declared combat ready and was committed against the rebels in Latvia. It has had some sharp fights both with its old comrades and elements of the 26th GMRD.

88th Motorized Rifle Division
A Category III division based in the Baltic MD. Earlier in the war, it was raided for equipment and manpower to get the 107th MRD ready for service. The unit was finally called up in 1999, woefully under strength and suffering from poor morale. The 11th Guards Army thus only uses the unit as a headquarters guard, not trusting the unit for anything else.

44th Airborne Division
The Soviet training formation for the airborne forces, the division was retained in its role until early 1998, where it was ordered into the field as a troop unit as part of 11th Guards Army. It was converted into a horse-borne raiding force and has carved out a very tough reputation for itself.

Baltic Naval Infantry Brigade
A Category I brigade based in the Baltic MD, the brigade was held in reserve until mid-1997, when it was involved in a abortive raid on Bornholm Island. The brigade was mauled, taking 30% casualties., and was placed into a reserve role. This mission morphed into an internal security mission in and around the Kaunas area.

6th Guards Tank Division
A Category II division based in the Byelorussian MD. The division was called up in late 1995 and was hurriedly trained up for deployment to the Far Eastern Theater. It was deployed to the front by rail in January 1996. It participated in the Soviet spring offensive in April 1996 and fought reasonably. Unfortunately, it was caught in the flank by the Chinese counterattack and destroyed. The few survivors were reassigned to other commands..

29th Tank Division
A Category II division based in the Byelorussian MD. The 29th was called up in late 1996 for shipment to the Far East, but these orders were soon cancelled and the division was sent West to fight NATO. The division fought reasonably well, but in early 1998, the division was hit by 2 tactical nuclear weapons and destroyed.

56th Guards Motor Rifle Division
The 56th is a Category II division based in the Byelorussian MD. The division was called up in late 1996 and sent into action against NATO in early 1997. The division fought well, but was caught in a small pocket near Lodz by US 50th Armored Division and destroyed. Survivors were reassigned to other commands.

34th Guards Tank Division
A Category II division based in the Byelorussian MD. It was called up in late 1995 for deployment to the Far East. The division arrived in China in time for the April 1996 spring offensive. The division fought very well and remained in theatre until China collapsed in 1997, then it was ordered to assume local occupation duties in the Harbin area.

37th Guards Tank Division
A Category II division based in the Byelorussian MD. The division was hurried called up in early 1997 and was poorly trained upon mobilization, the division was then committed against British II Corps near Warsaw. After a disastrous initial engagement, the division surrendered en masse to British II Corps.

47th Tank Division
A Category II division from the Byelorussian MD. It was called up in mid-1997 in an attempt to stop the German drive for the Soviet border. It fought a ugly rear-guard action near Bryansk with elements of German 10th Panzer Division, while the division bought time for Soviet forces to reform and set up a new defensive position. The action shattered the 47th, and the division was put into reserve. It was then recalled in 1999 and sent into the Ukraine to crush the rebellion.

58th Guards Motor Rifle Division
A Category II division from the Byelorussian MD, the division was called up in late 1996 as matters worsened in the West. Due to a variety of problems with mobilization and training, the division was not ready for deployment until November 1997. While the division was moving through Minsk en route to Poland, when the city was struck by NATO nuclear warheads.

8th Tank Division
A Category II division from the Byelorussian MD. The division was called up in late 1995 for service in the Far East. It was sent East in January of 1996 and participated in the Soviet spring offensive of 1996, and in subsequent actions, but was destroyed in a rare Chinese nuclear strike.

45th Guards Tank Division
A Category II division from the Byelorussian MD. The division was called up in late 1996 after West German forces crossed the IGB. The division was committed into action in Poland in early 1997 in Poland against American forces. It earned an enviable combat record. The division is currently in cantonment in Poland.

120th Guards Motor Rifle Division (oeRogachev Guards)
A Category I division from the Bylorussian MD, the Rogachev Guards were a storied unit of the Soviet Army. The division was ordered to prepare to be sent East in lmid-1996 with the failure of the spring offensive. These orders however were cancelled in October upon the West German invasion of East Germany. The Guards have fought very well, upholding the honor of their unit and have been used as a fire brigade for the Soviets in Poland.

17th Motor Rifle Division
A Category III division from the Carpathian MD. The division was looted for equipment and manpower for other Category III divisions until 1998, when it was finally called up to help put down the Ukrainian revolt. However, the 17th mutinied as well and joined the rebellion.

30th Guards Motor Rifle Division
A Category II division from the Carpathian MD, the division was called up in late 1995 for service in China and was deployed by rail in mid 1996 in the wake of the disastrous spring offensive and subsequent Chinese counter-offensive. The 30th did well in various defensive actions and in the subsequent pursuit and final destruction of Chinese resistance the next year, however, the division was badly mauled in a fight near Beijing, since that time, it has been ordered to assume occupation duties in Manchuria.

61st Motor Rifle Division
A Category II division from the Carpathian MD called up in early 1996 for service in China, the division had its training abbreviated and was sent West instead as the Germans crossed the IGB. The division reached the front in late November and fell apart in its first engagement with Canadian 4th Mechanized Brigade. Few of the divisions survivors bothered to return to Soviet service, most surrendering the first chance they got.

37th Air Assault Brigade
A Category I brigade from the Carpathian MD, the 37th was used as a deep penetration and raiding force against the Germans and later NATO forces in Poland and Germany. The brigade accrued a good, if somewhat hard-luck reputation that caught up with it in September 1997 when it had the misfortune of being in the city of Lvov when it was hit by nuclear attack.

48th Tank Division
A Category II division from the Kiev MD, the 48th was called up in late 1996 for service against the Germans after their invasion of the East. When NATO intervened in November of 1996, the Soviets abruptly ended the divisions training weeks early and sent it into action in early 1997, facing German forces in the Krakow area, where it was destroyed piecemeal.

46th Guards Motor Rifle Division
A Category II division from the Kiev MD, the 46th GMRD was called up in late 1995 for shipment to China and arrived in theater in early 1996. The division participated in the spring 1995 offensive and fought well, but was annihilated in the Chinese counterattack.

40th Tank Division
A Category II division from the Kiev MD, the division was called up in early 1997 for commitment against NATO forces in Poland. Concerns however, arose when members of the divisional staff, including both the divisional commander and his deputy turned out to be sympathetic to underground Ukrainian nationalist organizations and the KGB and GRU were called in to purge the unit of oecounter-revolutionary tendencies. Since both agencies worked at cross purposes, the investigation dragged on till December of 1997, keeping the division in Dneperpropetrovsk until several American nuclear warheads decided the issue for everyone.

41st Guards Tank Division
A Category II division from the Kiev MD, the division was called up in late 1995 for service in China, and arrived in theater in time to participate in the 1996 spring offensive. The division was mauled during the offensive and then was shattered by the Chinese counterattack, with surviving elements being folded into other commands.

75th Guards Tank Division
A Category II division from the Kiev MD, the division was called up in late 1995 for shipment to the Far East. The division arrived in theater in early 1996 and participated in the spring offensive in April. The unit fought very well, but was overwhelmed fighting a rearguard action covering the retreat of 39th Army during the Chinese counterattack.

47th Cavalry Division
A Category III division from the Kiev MD, the divisions equipment and personnel were ruthlessly poached for the 29th GMRD to facilitate its mobilization. The 47th became a paper formation until 1998, when it was given a recent draft of marginal quality, hastily reorganized into a cavalry division and attached to 19th Army to help put down the Ukrainian revolt. Surprisingly, while the unit is short on skill, it is very loyal.

60th Cavalry Division
A Category III division from the Kiev MD, like its brother division the 47th, the 60th was stripped of much of its strength to bring the 29th GMRD up to strength before it was sent to Romania. Thereafter, the division became a paper formation until 1998 when it too was filled with a draft of dubious quality and sent west to 22nd Cavalry Army in Poland. The division has not been committed to any serious action, mostly being used in anti-partisan sweeps and the like, and earning a bloody reputation in the process.

28th Guards Motor Rifle Division
A Category III division from the Odessa MD, the division was stripped of much of its personnel and equipment to bring the 128th GMRD up to strength. The remaining men and equipment were organized into a regimental sized battle group and charged with the mission of providing local security for the naval bases in the Crimea. The unit was destroyed during the nuclear strikes on the region.

55th Motorized Rifle Division
A Category III division from the Odessa MD, the division was called up in late 1996 as matters worsened with the Romanians and participated in the invasion of Romania in 1997. The division fought well, but took horrendous casualties, and was finally destroyed in an ambush near Timasoura in 1998.

59th Guards Motor Rifle Division
A Category II division from the Odessa MD, the division was called up for service in China in late 1995, but after some indecision, was sent into action against the Romanians in 1997 instead. The division fought well, but took horrendous casualties and by 1999, was barely able to field 1000 men and 3 tanks. The division was disbanded in July 1999, to provide replacements for other divisions in 3rd Guards Army.

102nd Guards Airborne Division
A Category I division from the Odessa MD, the 102nd was sent East by air in mid 1995 as part of the initial buildup for the eventual Soviet invasion of China. The division participated in the initial invasion, seizing several crossing sites over the Amur River at a price of 40% casualties. The division spent 1996 rebuilding in Kharbovorsk, and in early 1997, was sent to Korea to reinforce Soviet efforts there. It has earned a good, if bloody combat record.

Black Sea Naval Infantry Brigade
A Category I brigade from the Odessa MD, the Brigade has been involved in operations against the Turks ever since their entry into the war in 1996. The brigade has fought well, but has take heavy casualties and has been in a reserve role since 1998.

38th Air Assault Brigade
A Category I brigade from the Odessa MD, the brigade was alerted for deployment to the Far East in late 1996, but these orders were rescinded in November with the entry of NATO into the war. The brigade fought in Turkish Thrace, Yugoslavia and Romania, but was rotated back to the Ukraine in 1998 to help put down the separatist revolt. It is now a cavalry borne force ranging far and wide in the Ukrainian steppes.

4th Guards Motorized Rifle Division
A Category I division from the Moscow MD, the 4th GMRD was sent by rail to the Far Eastern front in mid-1995 as tensions with China worsened. The division fought well in the initial invasion, but was caught by the Chinese counterattack in isolated detachments and destroyed piecemeal.

7th Guards Motorized Rifle Division
A Category I division from the Moscow MD, the 7th GMRD, like its sister 4th GMRD, was sent East to the Far Eastern MD in mid-1995 as tensions worsened with China. When the war with China began, the 7th participated in the invasion and the division fought very well. It was however, mauled badly in the Chinese counterattack, and was sent back, sans equipment to its home station in the Kalinin area. The division found rebuilding to be a slow process, and in 1999, it was reactivated in a limited role to provide local security for the Kalinin area.

5th Guards Tank Division
A Category II division from the Moscow MD, the division was called up in early 1997 and was sent into action against NATO in Poland. The divisions training had been rushed, and as a result, the division fought very poorly, being mauled badly by US forces in its first engagement. Sent home to retrain and reform, it was in and around Moscow when the city was destroyed by nuclear attack.

13th Motorized Rifle Division
A Category III division from the Moscow MD, the 13th was raided for much of its available equipment and manpower for other mobilizing Category III divisions. The remainder of the division was then used as a training division for new draftees. In late 1998, the division was activated and sent into the line in Poland.

32nd Guards Motor Rifle Division
A Category III division from the Moscow MD, the division was called up in late 1995 and sent to the Far Eastern Front in early 1996. The division saw limited action in the 1996 spring offensive and was used mostly as flank security. It was overwhelmed and destroyed in that role in the Chinese counteroffensive.

53rd Guards Motor Rifle Division
A Category I division from the Moscow MD. The division was sent East in late 1995 and participated in the 1996 spring offensive. The division fought well, but was badly mauled in the Chinese counteroffensive. The division reformed from other broken units in theater and fought reasonably well, upon conclusion of operations in China, the division was sent to reinforce the Yalu Front.

43rd Motorized Rifle Division
A Category III division from the Volga MD, the division was called up in late 1997 and was both under equipped and under manned. Thankfully, the division was not given orders for Poland but instead was ordered to provide local security in the Kubyashev region. The division remains loyal to the Soviet state, but it is out of contact with any higher headquarters and is contending with the dual pressures of marauder bands and dissatisfied, sullen residents of the Kubyashev area.

67th Motorized Rifle Division
A Category III division from the Volga MD, the division was mobilized in early 1996 for anticipation of being sent East to China. In mid-1996, as disaster unfolded in the East, the 67th MRD was hurriedly loaded onto railcars and rushed east to reinforce the failing Soviet effort. Despite poor equipment and training, the unit fought well, this is probably more a testament to the fact that the nuclear phase of the war in the East was finally neutralizing the PLA. Sadly for the 67th, during a successful pursuit, the division overran its stop line and was destroyed by Soviet tactical nuclear weapons in the ultimate act of oefriendly fire.

44th Tank Division
A Category II division from the Urals MD, the 44th TD was called up in early 1996 and was slated to reinforce the Soviet effort in China. But, when the Bundeswehr crossed the IGB in late 1996, the 44th was sent West and entered action in February 1997; it fought well, if ineptly, and was destroyed by tactical nuclear weapons in August of 1997.
